Poplar Tree Cottages

Lots more info there!

Poplar Tree Cottages were actually semi-detached cottages by the nineteenth century.

I will call them Poplar One and Poplar Two for ease of reference, but they have never been referred to as this, to my knowledge.

I’ll start this section by linking to a great little snippet of information from the Free Press about an incident involving the Stratton family, who lived there from the 1850s to the 1870s. It appears that Poplar Cottage was being used as an illegal drinking house, for a short time in the 1860s, until they were rumbled, quite likely by the ever popular Meredith family!!!
