William was the son of Roger and Ann Williams of Beech Farm. He was born in approximately 1841, almost certainly after the 6th of June, since he did not appear in the census of that year. EMIGRATION He emigrated to New Zealand in 1869 (this was commemorated on a book that he gave to Mary Ann Arnold (his niece) as a parting gift. She used it to record the names, birthdates and birthplaces of all of her 11 brothers and sisters.
